How to extend the service life of wires and cables

As an important component of the power system, wires and cables must be regularly inspected and maintained during use to ensure our daily electrical safety and extend their service life. Precautions for wires and cables in daily use.
1. External force invasion
If wires and cables are laid in areas with strong acid and alkali properties, it usually leads to corrosion of the wires and cables. The thickness of the protective layer is eroded by organic chemical or electrolytic methods for a long time, resulting in ineffective protective layer thickness, reduced insulation layer, and cable failure. Therefore, before laying wires and cables, it is necessary to analyze the local soil conditions.
2. Natural Weather
During the installation of wires and cables, it is advisable to avoid direct sunlight or exposure to strong winds and heavy rain, as the accumulation of time can accelerate the brittleness of the sheath and reduce the service life of the wires and cables.
3. Suitable temperature
The external natural environment and heat source where the cable is located can also cause the cable temperature to be too high and the insulation layer to break through, leading to explosions and fires.
4. Overload operation
Do not operate wires and cables under overload, as the thermal effect of current will inevitably cause the electrical conductor to overheat. In addition, the skin effect of charges and the eddy current loss of steel armor and insulation layer dielectric loss will also generate additional heat, thereby causing the temperature of the cable to rise. During long-term overload operation, excessively high temperatures can accelerate the embrittlement of the insulation layer, leading to thermal breakdown of the insulation layer.
Wire and cable are currently one of the most core and important elements of cable systems. In our daily applications, we need to check and repair them at any time, and take some defensive measures in advance to extend the service life of wire and cable.
